The most obvious way to make money working from home and to be able to manage your own time is setting up a home based internet business. This sounds complicated and expensive. But it really doesn’t need to be.

In order to make money online, there is one key thing that is essential. A website.

When the internet first started to emerge,  you had to have an in depth knowledge of coding and creative design in order to create a website, and they were clunky and ugly and really text heavy. Yes I do remember this. Since then, the internet has transformed and houses some amazing websites, with fantastic functionality and an uber slick looks. But to keep up with this, ‘packages’  have emerged that allow you to capitalise on some of this and take part in the action. Now you can build one of these beautiful websites yourself, and use it to start your business. And to do so REALLY simply.

Considerations when building a website

When building a website there are things you need to think about in order to ensure that your website performs to its absolute best. And these are all things the main search engine, Google, factor in to determining where they position your site in their listings.

  1. First and foremost it’s about quality relevant content
  2. Your pages must load quickly otherwise you risk losing visitors
  3. Your site is easy and logical to navigate
  4. It looks the part, professional and well maintained
  5. Is easy to update, using a content management system

So how can you get in on the action and create one of these websites yourself which meets all this criteria, and will rank highly on Google and is easy to set up? I suggest you choose WordPress for the reasons above

    Hey Ruth,
This is a great guide you’ve laid out, building a website is definitely easy now compared to several years back. I remember vaguely how hard and expensive it was to create a website back then not to mention time-consuming.

We had to learn coding and some people even take website making classes but that was too much for me so I hired a web developer instead. And believe it or not, that costed me $2,000 because of all those time and codes.

Building a website now is much simpler and I would advise anyone to have a go at it, its fun and very rewarding too to start a business.

Sounds about right! $2000 for a website. It did use to be such a minefield of technical knowledge and words that sounded impossible to understand. I remember sitting with a developer once in my previous job in a marketing agency and he was explaining html to me. It sounded like something I would NEVER understand. But these days you don’t have to. Thanks for your comments.

Hello there. I like the idea of having a website as a basis for home-based internet business.

It is nice to know that there is an easy way to build a website without the need of coding, and it looks legit too. I will check it for myself.

Thank you for sharing this 🙂

    Hello,

I think your article makes sense and I agree that having a website will put you into the best position for success with your online business.

Is WordPress really that good. I heard there is a common error that occurs with the visual editor.

    Any truth behind that matter?

    Thanks,

    ~Benji~

I have never personally experienced any errors, only one where the menu function was a bit off but that only lasted for a few days and wordpress released an update. There are other similar CMS site builders such as Joomla and drupal, but they are alot more complicated and require a little knowledge of coding and more patience, so I would whole heartedly recommend WordPress to Build a website over those. I hope that helps.

Hello there Ruth , interesting article.Indeed , without a website I can not predict high levels of online success.Without it you can not promote your offers and build trust around an audience.

Of the 3 important factors you mentioned I highlight the “Idea” as the most critical.

I use WordPress and built my website with the SiteRubix builder , in minutes. It was very easy to setup.

I have been wanting to start a business from home and a friend suggested a website. This made me nervous because it seems very overwhelming as I am not techy at all.

However, after doing some research into it, it looks like you don’t have to be all that tech savvy. You have made starting a website sound so simple.

If I make a website through siterubix at the bottom of this article, is it really completely free? Or is it just the first month or something like that?

    • Ruth Maisey says:

No it’s completely free. In fact you can have two completely free! And this is forever. You can run it off the siterubix platform (which means it will have a siterubix end to the url) or you can convert it to your own domain (or website name) as and when you like.

Have a play around and see what you think!
