Can you make money doing surveys online? ‘What is Surveyhead’?

What is surveyhead

Simply, Surveyhead allows you to make money online taking surveys. These surveys are provided by large brands, government bodies etc, and Surveyhead collects the data through its database of registrants who have signed up to take these surveys, ie YOU, maybe?.

Firstly, the thing to notice, is that is it now called iPoll, but to avoid confusion, I will still call it Surveyhead, as this is what you have searched for. But can you make a decent income with this method? Or is it too much like hard work for little reward? Let’s see if we can find what is Surveyhead and can you make money simply doing surveys? And let’s see if we can answer the question, is Surveyhead a scam?

Company Name: Surveyhead, now known as Ipoll

Website URL:

Cost: Free to join, but you have to have earnt over $25 min in order to redeem your money

My Rating: 3 out of 5

So how does Surveyhead work?

Market research companies pay Surveyhead to collect data for them. If you join Surveyhead, they pay you $5 to start! Great! You get to sit in the comfort of your home and fill in surveys.  The BIG, HUGE thing about most paid survey companies is that you receive rewards rather than payments and this is how Surveyhead works. I talk about this a bit more later on.

When you join, you fill in a registration form which ask about your consumption preferences and the products you are interested in as well as your lifestyle choices. Then Surveyhead matches your profile with the requested surveys as they come up. So the companies requesting the survey information get targeted information from exactly who they are targeting, and you get to answer surveys that are most interesting to you.

How do you make money with Surveyhead?

Taking Surveys:

There is no standard rate for survey taking. It can vary per survey. You can get paid $1 for taking a survey that lasts 15 minutes or 50 cents for one that takes 5 minutes. But something to bear in mind is if you work that out as a hourly rate, you aren’t looking at very much at all!

Testing Products:

This is quite an appealing part of the process for me. You can be sent products to test and then you are asked to review them. This could be an experience or a physical product. A lot of the time you can keep the product as a bonus. This feels a lot more valuable to me than taking the surveys. But you can’t choose the products that you want to assess. This is done by Surveyhead, this is what they are for! So don’t expect to be able to stock your wardrobe for nothing

How do you get paid?

This is the big downside for me. They pay you on a reward system. Albeit a really great set of reward companies that are on board. Companies like Amazon etc, see the text from their FAQ below. But for me, I want to be paid in money.

The benefits

  • You can fill in surveys very simply, it doesn’t take a lot of brain power, you can do it in front of the television.
  • It can be quite interesting (sometimes) if you are reviewing products that you are genuinely interested in
  • Some Surveys pay OK
  • The product testing is quite fun

The drawbacks

  • There aren’t always surveys available when you are ready to sit down and do them
  • It can be monotonous to fill in survey after survey
  • The payment is very low. Below minimum wage in most countries. So consider if you want to waste any time doing this

My Verdict – Is Surveyhead a scam?

Is Surveyhead a scam?

No definitely not. It is a well structured business that pays on time, and Surveyhead is totally legit. BUT… It pays LOW and it pays in rewards, which might not be what you are looking for. I have put this is my so so category because it’s not bad but it won’t change your life.

  1. Matthew Thomas says:

It’s certainly possible to make money online by filling out surveys, but in my experience with services like CashCrate, the pay is much too low and the work much too tedious to be worth it. I’ve never used Surveyhead, but I think it’s safe to say that there are better methods of making money online – like through affiliate marketing for example. What options would you recommend in place of survey sites?

    • Ruth says:

You are right Matthew. If you want to make a real income online, you need to ne doing something you enjoy and I have to say it is highly unlikely that anyone would enjoy filling out surveys day after day.

The only way to build a real sustainable enjoyable home business that I recommend is Wealthy Affiliate which teaches you affiliate marketing. You can earn a lot of money with this business model and it’s worth checking out. Good luck!

Surveyhead is one of the picked survey platforms that clixsense provides but I have to be striaght with you…it’s not the best! I found that it’s actually very poor for getting you to fill in about 3 to 4 sheets of questions and then suddenly kick you straight off the survey! Are there any survey sites that you 100% trust?

    • Ruth says:

hi Chris. Yes you are right, there is nothing more frustrating than this practice of getting so far down the line that you have wasted loads of time and can’t even answer the survey. To be honest, these pure survey companies aren’t worth your time. If you want to make money this way, I suggest an all in one platform which has a variety of short tasks such as Swagbucks, my favorite one. Or check out my article with several others which is all about the best way to make money doing short tasks. I hope this helps!

  3. Rendall says:

I was involved in online survey in 2 years ago. When we work in this kind of company, what we need is patient and consistency. But, the earning potential is a bit slow compared to other online business like affiliate marketing. By the way, is to make sure join the legit company that gives the steady income.

    • Ruth says:

Hi Rendall, Thanks for your comments. You are right, make sure to join the legit companies. There are some out there that don’t pay. I will be reviewing all of those for sure too.

  4. CrewMonkey says:

Great information on iPoll. I have done research on it as well and you have it all laid out, cons and all. You definitely don’t seem to be pushing this site onto me which is awesome! Very good approach and I’m sure this page will do very well if it’s not doing so already!

    • Ruth says:

Thanks Crewmonkey. I love your avatar name!

All I try to do is give an outline of each business and my opinion at the end, so that people can make up their own minds. I am pleased that you can see this.

      Thanks for feeding back!

  5. John says:

Glad I investigated this survey survey head review before joining it, I have tried many survey sites and if they was not complete scams they atleast had one thing in common: All of them pay so small amounts of money, guess there is no way to make a full time living doing surveys, right? I am going to look up your recommendation to build a full-time income online and see what I think about that! Thank you!

    • Ruth says:

You can come across some articles out there where people claim to have made 100s through surveys. I have NO idea how this could even be slightly possible. I just don’t believe it. I am yet to be shown something that I can believe in.

So if you are looking for pocket money then these are ok. But for nothing more. Good luck with trying out my recommendation. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

  6. Dylan says:

This is such a great website with a lot of helpful information. There are so many scams on the internet and it’s important for people to know what to invest their time and money in.

I agree with what you have to say in this review. I wouldn’t say this is a scam but for the low payouts and being paid in rewards makes it seem not worth the time.

    Thanks for the information!

  7. Divican says:

I hate taking survey online. Many companies have discouraged me over this. Truly I have tested more than 20 companies offering surveys but with total discouragement and I always walk away when I see something like” get paid by doing surveys. But your word seems to be true about Surveyhead and I will give it try. Not now but later.

    • Ruth says:

I read an article the other day with someone claiming they made $500 a day taking surveys. I just don’t see how that is possible. There aren’t that many hours in the day! It’s a personal choice, but for a real income you won’t get much doing surveys. Thanks for your comments. !

  8. Marcus says:

I really don’t think surveys are a great way to earn money online. In fact, I don’t know why there are so many survey sites these days. They have been around for years, and they hardly ever earn anyone any decent money. Actually, the only people that tend to earn a lot of money from them are the people that promote them. Otherwise, you are far better off doing other things to earn money online. The best way to earn money online it to learn how to build a profitable website. The way the best way to build a profitable website is through affiliate marketing, don’t you agree?

    • Ruth says:

I do agree Marcus, absolutely. It’s something that I have only discovered recently, and i want to get the word out there to help other people. There are lots of good training programs such as Wealthy Affiliate or Affilorama which help you learn the right way. I hope I can help people to find these programs.

  9. Rigo says:

I remember when I first started looking for ways to make money online I definitely turned to filling out surveys that promised to pay way more than they actually did. I wouldn’t technically call it a scam but it definitely isn’t the way to go when trying to make money online. There are so many other ways to make money online and taking surveys is pretty much a waste of time for any online entrepreneur. Enjoyed the article, it was an honest review.

    • Ruth says:

Thanks Rigo. I agree, it can take a lot of time for what is really a poor payout, so I wouldn’t consider it a business on any level! But you have to try these things huh. If you don’t try, then you don’t get there!

  10. Don says:

    Hi Ruth,

That is the problem with most survey-based businesses. They just pay too less for surveys why it is usually not very attractive for building up a second income. Additionally, it takes plenty of time to do surveys and you should give good answers not just click anything.

However, can you recommend a good alternative that really gives you the chance to build up an online business with a full-time income?

    • Ruth says:

Hi Don. Yes, you can earn pocket money but you are right, it doesn’t allow you to build up a real home business. I would suggest, if you are serious about a home business, Wealthy Affiliate is a great opportunity where you can learn how to build your own business in any interest from scratch

  11. I tried surveys for a few days and I think I earned five dollars for at least eight hours of my time. Definitely could have made more money working a minimum wage job, even after taxes are taken out. Thanks for sharing this, hopefully, you will save others a lot of time. I agree that it isn’t a scam to make money from surveys, it is just a waste of time. Great write up!

  12. Luke says:

I did some surveys in the past, but I gave it up.

It didn’t make sense to me. The money was too low.

Maybe I would still be doing this today, however, I’ve found better ways of making money online.

Generally I think surveys are OK, but if you’re ready to learn, you will find that you can earn online in many different ways.

    • Ruth says:

Indeed, I agree. It’s not the easy way. In fact I think you would be better off getting a job in MacDonalds for the money!

  13. Jess says:

Hi and thanks for sharing this. 🙂 Seems like Surveyhead would be great for e.g. some students, stay-at-home moms, part-time workers. That must be a jackpot to find “not-a-scam” cause most of them are not trusty. I tried once and got so much trash to my email that I needed to set much harder filters there. 😀 Nah, own fault, of course.

    • Ruth says:

Yes that is always the danger with these types of programs is the amount of spam you get. Surveyhead doesn’t have this and yes is a good opportunity for students etc. Thanks for your comments

  14. Alex says:

Hi. First of all, thanks for posting this article to share with those who are interested to earn some pocket money online. Earning from survey work is slow and it is more suitable for students or people who just need some side income.

You have pointed out that this is not meant for people who wish to earn real full time oncome. I wonder if there is any better way to start a serious online business?

  15. Chris says:

This was a very unique review on surveys. I have actually tried taking surveys in the past online, and it was really tedious. If you have ADHD like me, you may think you’ll make it through one survey, but I promise you will not! Being below minimum wage, this wouldn’t help many of us, but for a few people, it could very well help them.

When you say you are paid in “rewards,” do you mean objects, or what? I’d certainly to spend that much time just to receive an useless object, lol.

Thank you for the good read!

    • Ruth says:

By being paid in rewards I meant being paid in essentially vouchers in the form of money off. Say for Amazon. So its not actually cash. Not so useful huh!?

  16. Randy says:

    Hi Ruth,

I was looking into making money from home about a month ago and tried some online surveys. It is very time consuming and the reward(pay) is very low.
I wish I could have read this post before all the time I wasted!
Thank you for providing this info, maybe you can save another person from the misery of doing surveys.

    • Ruth says:

Hi Randy. It can be miserable, so I’m pleased I could give you some details about what is surveyhead. It is quite surprising that these survey businesses still operate and they have a lot of people on their books.

  17. Kams says:

Hi, I’ve never tried these two companies, but I tried others, and I wasn’t impressed with the results. Some surveys were very long, I would take ages to complete them and the reward was peanuts. I gave up after a month…I had an impression that I spent most of my free time doing surveys and ended up with $20 of “income”.

    • Ruth says:

I think to make it work you need to set up several accounts and do them simultaneously, but to be honest, who could be bothered to do that! I think its a way to earn a few quid here and there, but nothing ground breaking!

      Thanks for your comments though.
