Is Opinion Outpost a Scam and is it Worth Your Time?

Is opinion outpost a scam

The big thing about taking surveys online is the question of whether it’s worth your time. With so many other sites out there, doing the same thing, it begs the question, is opinion Outpost a scam?

I’ll cut to the chase and tell you now, NO, Opinion outpost is not a scam. But that’s not everything. I took a tour around the system and joined up so you don’t have to, so that I could give you a full review here, and then help you decide if this is the kind of business you want to work in.

What is Opinion Outpost about?

Simply put, Opinion Outpost is a website where you can take surveys online for cash or rewards.

You can choose your category to be something to interest to you and answer questions on products or services that you might use. You provide your details in an initial questionnaire which allows Opinion Outpost to give you a profile, so you can be matched against surveys for which you have relevant interests.

Can you make money with Opinion Outpost?

Most definitely, you can make money with Opinion Outpost. The question is how much.

You will get probably 2 survey invites a day.  But you will not qualify for every survey you are invited into. You have to answer some initial questions in order to qualify for each particular survey. Now, the pre-qualification questions can take a fair bit of time to answer, and if you don’t then qualify you don’t get paid. VERY annoying.

This is very standard for all survey companies though, so its probably not something we should blame Opinion Outpost for.

In terms of payment they work to a points system where you get between 20 and 50 points for every completed survey and it takes 100 points to earn $10. Roughly speaking these surveys pay between $2 and $5 a go. Most surveys take an average of 30 minutes so what we are talking about here is $5 an hour. If you can get the surveys.

This is the big question with Opinion Outpost and other making survey companies such as Surveyhead, is it really worth your time?

Lets break it own based on the average earnings. Say 30 minutes pays you $5 an hour, and you are looking to have a supplementary income of $1500 per month. This would mean you have to work 150 hours a month on surveys, equating to about 37.5 hours a week. So a FULL TIME job. Firstly, you might not get these surveys when you want them, and you would have to committ yourself to this FULL time to earn a relatively low wage.

You can redeem your points for either cash, being paid back through paypal or for rewards at places like Amazon or Itunes

Who can take part in these surveys?

This depends on what you are looking for? I would say it would be great for students for some pocket money, or if you wanted a little bit extra here and there. I would definitely not recommend jacking in your day job! As long as you are ok with that from the beginning then no problem.

Is Opinion Outpost a scam?

The answer to this question, ‘is Opinion Outpost a scam’ is most definitely no.

It is a totally legitimate company and they pay on time and supply good quality surveys from reputable sources, such as government bodies or other large well known organisations. These companies pay a lot of money for quality surveys, so time is spent on creating good quality surveys which will be used. Don’t worry, your work WILL be used.

Have a look at this video which really does summarise it all

The benefits

  • It’s easy work, you can sit in front of the television and complete a survey. IF there is one available when your favourite program is on!
  • Anyone can apply, there is no qualification process necessary, you don’t need to do an exam to qualify
  • The surveys are created initially by reputable companies, so you know that you are not then redirected into a purchase or anything scammy like that

The drawbacks

  • It takes a long time to complete a survey making your hourly rate really quite low
  • It’s dull dull dull. It might start off being quite interesting, but doing survey after survey, even if its for something in which you are vaguely interested in, it’s pretty boring, well in my opinion. If you want to build a business around something you are truly interested in, try this option
  • You don’t get delivered surveys when YOU want them. You have to wait, and you might not be ready to work when the survey is availalbe.

My verdict

If you are looking for a full time income, and a chance to give up the day job, this is definitely not the right thing for you. If you are looking for a few cents here and there doing easy work, then this is perfect. This is why I have put it in the ‘So so’ category.

But if you are serious about earning an online income, you have probably found yourself looking over various opportunities and maybe that is how you have come to find yourself here.

Making serious money online is not easy, and if you want to do it, but do it whilst working on something you really enjoy, then try my no 1 recommendation. This is how I make money online, and it is truly a legitimate business which will allow you to something you really enjoy and make a serious income from it, and its FREE to join!.

I hope this has helped you think about taking surveys online for money, and whether this is the right option for you. Please leave any comments below..

Glad I stumbled across your site and was an interesting read, I always like to know what other peoples opinions are when it comes to surveys and weather it’s worth the time.
And as I though definitely not worth the time! It’s a nice idea though to earn loads of money filling out surveys.
Think I will stick to wealthy affiliate, it’s alot more profitable and fun

    • Ruth says:

Hi Jenny. Yes you are right, taking surveys is not a way to make a lot of money, maybe a few bucks here and there, but it won’t change anything but it will take up a lot of time. Not really worth it as far as I can see. Thanks for leaving your comments!

    Hey Ruth,
Opinion Outpost sounds cool but I have to agree with you, it’s not a good choice for those looking to make money online full-time.

Sure, you can start right away but you get very little pay for such tedious and time-consuming work which is not worth doing at all since you will be doing the same thing over and over again with very little chance to grow.

Awesome review as always, keep up the good work!

    This was an interesting post.

I have some across so-called survey opportunities before but have never really know if they are scams or not.

Your post was well-written very detailed and you seem to cover all bases as far as this opportunity is concerned.

Anyone who has ever though about filling in surveys online will definitely benefit from reading this.

    • Ruth says:

Great news. I am putting together an article right now about the top ways to earn money online doing small tasks so I will make sure to share that to my email list once it’s done!

  4. Todd says:

Thanks for the review on Outpost. Not a scam, but not worth the time to qualify for paid surveys. I recently heard that when you calculate the time it takes to qualify, take the surveys, and so on equals about $3/hour for your time.

I looked into this originally and thought there has to be a better way to make good money online. So I started my own affiliate based niche website. No I wake up a make anywhere from $70 to $600/day. It’s great.

Thanks for your review on Outpost, not a scam, but not worth the time in my opinion.

    • Ruth says:

Wow you have done an amazing job with your affiliate site. Affiliate marketing

Is by far the best way to make an online income, as far as I am concerned! Good for you. Thanks for stopping by and making a comment. Good luck to you!

    Hi there

I was involved with Opinion Outpost in the past and they are not a bad survey panel. The only problem with survey panels are that you cannot really scale your income to the level that you want to.

There is also no way for you to earn a passive income from survey panels. Maybe if you get referrals for survey panels it might work.

    • Ruth says:

Yes you are right, it’s pocket money more than anything, and its really boring work. But if that’s is all you are looking for then that’s fine. If you want I recommend you try Wealthy affiliate as a way to build a reallly strong passive income

  6. steve says:

In my experience these survey sites provide no value to you, yes you will earn money, but it takes ages and you dont get paid a great deal.

you would have to sign up to so many to make a full time income from them and imagine how tedious that would be answering questions allday.

I suppose there is a place for them if you do the odd one here and there just for a vit of beer tokens or something

    • Ruth says:

That’s exactly it Steve. I think I mentioned this in my article, but if you go in with the right attitude and not expecting to make a fortune then its fine. It is what it is really. Thanks for your comments!

    Hi Ruth,

I too have tried earning with survey sites and received some credits from them. There are people that successfully work with them. I had not heard of Opinion Outpost before but it sounds like a good one. Swagbucks is good too. Like anything, it takes learning how and some trial and error. It is time better spent online than playing games and fooling around on Facebook.

Your ‘no 1 recommendation’ was the answer for me. I wish I had found it years ago. Now I have the tools I need to be successful. I hope your readers will take your advice and try it.

    • Ruth says:

Ah, it’s good to hear your experience. The people who tend to make any real money from these businesses, have a specialised system that they have honed down over years. I am glad that you haev found Wealthy affiliate and I am sure you will be a success. It takes time but people who put in the work really reap the rewards!

You sa it is a legitimate site for surveys , not bad.If you sign up for many of those , it is an extra income , for some people these money is like treasure.

Nice video they have on their channel. And I just visited their site , it looks professional , I am going to sign up , to further test it for myself.

  9. Xander says:

    Hi Ruth,

Thanks for the detailed review and unbiased opinion. I’m always on the look out to find new and different ways to make money online. So Opinion Outpost doesn’t seem to fit into those plans. To low payout for the amount of time wasted.

Thanks again for the great review.

Very honest review I joined many of these survey websites online before I heard of WA.
I wasted hours doing boring surveys and earned not a penny learned my lesson never doing that again!
At WA you learn all about online marketing, meet loads of very helpful genuine people online and have a new skill you can put on your CV and hopefully if your website does well you earn a decent income.

    • Ruth says:

Yes absolutely I agree. I too worked on many different survey sites trying to earn some extra money and it was incredibly frustrating. It’s alwasy nice to meet a fellow Wealthy affiliate member, so I’ll see you on the inside!

    • Swagbucks involves a lot more elements. Yes you can do surveys online, but you also get points for shopping, or doing other online activities through their portal. Opinion Outpost is purely about surveys. Here’s some more information on Swagbucks if you are interested.
