If you haven’t bought a laptop for a while, you will be amazed at how far they have come. This one is so super slim and lightweight and has a profile similar to that of the Macbook Air, in fact it’s the closest thing to a Macbook Air that you can get in a PC. I have got to say it’s my favourite. I am a PC person, and this one is top of the range with an affordable price tag.
With a stylish aluminium case an expert engineering, its exterior is tough and durable against scratching and fingerprints. Perfect if you are working from home, and the computer needs to be a little more resilient.
If size is important to you It’s only 1.5cm tall, 30 inches wide, and 20cm long so its compact and looks great, and at 2.6 lbs it is actually lighter than the Macbook Pro. And with a battery life of 11 hours, you can take it anywhere and know it won’t let you down.
Have a look at the video to get a real feel for it.
The most impressive thing about the Dell XPS 13 is the screen which has a 1920 x 1080 resolution which brings brilliant definition and clarity. Have a look at the image, you can see that the screen display is literally as large as it can be, offering almost an ‘infinity’ display.
Note, this is not a touchscreen laptop, you can get the XPS 13 with a touchscreen which is the Quad HD version, for about another £300 / $500 more and this has a 3200 x 1800 pixel resolution with faster processor and more storage, but for a home business purpose, I haven’t reviewed this one, as I think the additional cost makes it a non essential.
Due to the nature of the edge to edge display, the webcam has an odd positioning, at the bottom left, so you get that view under your chin, which isn’t ideal but isn’t uncommon and not a deal breaker.
The processor in this machine depends on the configuration you choose. You could have a Intel Core i5-5200U or Core i7-5500U. If this means nothing to you then the latter is faster. As a small business either will do the job.
As is the norm, you can either choose 4GB or 8GB memory with storage choice of 28GB to 512GB. The configuration of your machine, the memory capacity, everything affects the price, so make sure you think about what you really need and make sure your selection has all the right elements. You can base this on your current machine and see how that fits your requirements and go up or down in storage based on this. I have recommended Amazon as a place to purchase because if you get it wrong, their returns policy is second to none, so you won’t lose out there.
Keyboard and track pad
As this is a really premium ultrabook, this beauty has all the top of the range features such as a backlit keypad and single touch keypad. As you will see in the video, the keyboard can look a little fragile and this is a downside of this machine, but to be honest, its only a small point.
I love this laptop. For me it’s the best for a home business with an affordable price tag, a very stylish look and top of the range processor and screen quality. It may be a little more pricey than you had imagined but the quality you get and the value for this price tag is second to none. I would highly recommend it.
If you are a Mac person the equivalent is the Macbook Air which I haven’t actually reviewed, but have a look at the Macbook Pro which I think it altogether a better machine than the Macbook Air. If this is too pricey for your budget, maybe consider the Acer Aspire for a mid range laptop or the Toshiba Chromebook 2, for even less!
If you have any questions on this machine or just any comments, I would love to hear them!
